Help your child learn the alphabet at the same time he/she is learning about bugs like the jewel beetle, the katydid, and others. If you like bugs (I don’t), you’ll like this book.

I spent more time rewriting this review than any other review I have written to date.

Alabama Oh is about a little girl growing up in a town where everything is painted beige. I think it a metaphor.

Alabama is a black girl. I say this because her skin color plays an important part in the book. Throughout the book, Alabama seems to have trouble, mostly with white people because she is different. Her teacher is no exception. In fact, after the teacher meets Alabama’s parents, Alabama tells her parents “she doesn’t like things that are colorful and people who are different”.

I think the lesson of the book was meant to be that all people are different but I am unsure as it did not come across very well. I did like the illustrations.

Learn your ABCs with cute illustrations and words. Each page has a letter with illustrations and words corresponding to the letter. For example: “Aa Ate the Apple”.

Maia Yiagou’s learning books are always a fun way to teach your child.

Another fun and full of color, learning book for your child. This time we learn about shapes. All kinds of shapes. The author uses cute people shaped figures to show us the shapes. Then compares each shape with things we see every day. It’s truly a good way to get your children to learn shapes.

We start the next Ronaldo adventure flying over the skies above the village of Beresford. Ronaldo is in his second year at the prestigious reindeer flying academy. He is still at the top of his class.

The theme throughout the Ronaldo series is about your ability to believe in yourself so it always reminds me of a popular song from years ago. I’ll sing a few lines. Be warned, I have a bad singing voice:

I believe I can fly
I believe I can touch the sky
I think about it every night and day
Spread my wings and fly away……

( )

Great now I’m going to hear the song in my head.

In fact, I just named the song the official Ronaldo the Flying Reindeer theme song.

In this book in the series, Ronaldo finds himself on another adventure. This time to find “The Phantom Carrot Snatcher” because someone has been stealing his carrots. Ronaldo and his very best friend, Rudi, (not the football player) are determined to find out who it is. Along the way, they find out about friendship and kindness. Will they find out who “The Phantom Carrot Snatcher” is? You’ll just have to buy the book and find out for yourself.

Let me leave you with this thought:

“Good friends make happy days brighter and problems lighter”.

OK…..I stole that from the book!

A true learning book; great for teachers and parents.

We meet Spot, a sea lion pup who lives in the ocean. I believe there are two main purposes of this book. First is to teach the importance of keeping our oceans clean. Spot, the sea lion is the main character and we find out what happens if our seas are not clean.

Second, we get to learn about sea life through what the author calls “fun facts”. For example, an octopus has three hearts. That’s funny because I know some people who are heartless.

The last two pages have a section called “help kids to make the connections and ask questions”. You can use this to reinforce what you have just learned.

Sister Girl And The Training Wheels

This was a very fun and thrilling book to read. The artwork makes the story come alive. Sister Girl decides she wants to learn to ride a bike. I kept hoping we would learn Sister Girl’s real name but we never do.

Her dad is a great example of a real man and good dad which is something we need more of these days. In fact, I know the story was focusing on Sister Girl, however, I was impressed by her dad. I think a lot of “men” can learn something by reading this book. I suggest reading it as a family and maybe even buying a copy for a dad you know.
